United Nations

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian aid organisation. Its mandate is to provide emergency and development food aid to fight hunger and poverty amongst the world’s poorest and most vulnerable women and children. WFP’s goal is to halve global hunger by 2015.

Much remains to be done. Even though WFP provides life-saving food to over 90 million people each year -- 40 million of them children – over 800 million people still do not have adequate access to food on a daily basis. Every five seconds, a person dies of hunger or its related causes.

WFP relies entirely on voluntary contributions to finance its operations, with donations made in cash, food or services. Most of its support comes from governments. The agency is now systematically seeking new forms of support from other sources, such as the private sector. Transporters, food manufactures, information technology, banks and HR companies can all have a role in helping WFP be more efficient and effective in fighting global hunger. For example, for a mere US$34, WFP can feed and educate a child for one school year.

Over the past two years, Praktijktrainers International has trained our donor relations officers in multiple disciplines including sales, marketing and negotiation techniques. The pro bono support that Praktijktrainers has provided to WFP has been invaluable and has allowed us to be more effective in acquiring new donor partners and increasing the support we provide to the hunger poor. Thank you Praktijktrainers!
